My name is Mónico Fernando Heredia Esquivel, I was born in Aguascalientes, Mexico. I attended high school seminary in Mexico. I studied one semester of English at the University of Chicago in 2013. I moved to the USA in 2015 as a seminarian for the Diocese of Reno, Nevada. In 2016, I visited Twin Falls to spend Thanksgiving with a local family while also celebrating my birthday. During that time, I fell in love with this area, especially seeing the great need for Latino priests here. My discernment to transfer to this diocese began then. After I finished my philosophy degree at Mount Angel Seminary, I made the decision to transfer to Boise. I was on the basketball team at both seminaries in Mexico and at Mount Angel. I enjoy playing sports, but I don’t follow any on TV. I like hiking and outdoor activities. I am the sixth child in my family of seven (four sisters and two brothers), with twenty-four nieces and nephews so far.

From the time I was an altar server at the age of eleven I fell in love with the Mystery of the Eucharist. I said, “I won’t be able to fully understand this Mystery and other mysteries of the Church, so I better start working to understand as much as I can, and in that way, I will be aiming for my Heavenly Land.” Here I am answering our Heavenly Father’s call. From 2020-2021 I did a pastoral year at Saint Edward the Confessor in Twin Falls, then I was sent to study Theology at Saint Paul Seminary in Saint Paul Minnesota. During the summer of 2023 I helped in Coeur d’Alene and her neighbor parishes. I am currently in my third year of Theology, this year is a preparation to my deaconate ordination this coming summer, God willing it. So please keep praying for me that Jesus will choose me to be a deacon then a priest.  Please pray for vocations and families from our Diocese of Boise.
