Mount Borah Hiking Trip

The Sons of St. Joseph are invited to hike Mount Borah and enjoy outdoor recreation and fellowship in the Mackay area from July 26 – July 29.

• • Itinerary: We will gather to begin the trip on July 26. Depending on weather, we will attempt to summit Mount Borah on July 27 or July 28. The other day will be used for exploring and recreation in the Challis/Mackay area. Potential activities include Hot springs, visiting historical churches, praying, spiritual conversation, and fishing (if you have a license and bring your own equipment). The trip will conclude with Mass and breakfast on July 29.
• • Meeting Location: We will gather at 1 PM on July 26 at the Pavilion at Our Lady of the Valley. If you are attending from south/east Idaho, plan to meet in Mackay at 6 PM, exact location to be announced.
• • Lodging: We will be staying at a large private cabin outside of Mackay. Bring your own sleeping bag, pillow, towel, and toiletries.
• • Hiking Details: Mount Borah is classified as a strenuous and physically challenging hike. More details about Mt. Borah can be found HERE. Many groups who attempt to summit Mount Borah are not able to complete the hike due altitude sickness, fatigue, inclement weather, etc. We have a Plan B ready for those who are not able to summit. Please be prudent while hiking and don’t push yourself beyond your physical limit.
• • Safe Environment Requirements: Fathers of “younger brothers” are welcome to sign up as chaperones. Both parents registering as chaperones and those registering as “older brother” participants must be safe environment trained to attend.
• • Driving: Signing up to be a driver of other participants would be greatly appreciated! Please know you must submit the forms linked below to drive non-family trip participants. Of course, you are welcome to drive yourself privately, but we will eventually need to consolidate vehicles to drive to the trail head and to other activities. Those over 21 are encouraged to fill out the driver forms so we can move as a group! Thank you for taking this extra step!
• • Waivers: Per diocesan guidelines, participants must submit the applicable forms linked below via email to hopeinidaho@gmail.com by July 20th.
• • Registration Deadline: The registration deadline is July 20th.
• • Food: Bring your own food for lunch and snacks (e.g. sandwich supplies, granola bars, trailmix, electrolyte packets, etc). We will have group meals for breakfasts and dinners.
